Noticing the theme of witches in Latvian art and culture space, the Arts Department of the Institute of Literature, Folklore and Art, University of Latvia and Latvian Centre for Performance Art organize an international symposium “Witches Revisited: Exploration of Otherness Through Feminine Archetypes”.

This interdisciplinary project involves art historians, representatives of performance and live art, as well as folklore researchers to examine the controversy-torn witch archetypes and the problem of their representation. In a broader context, it resonates with cultural stereotypes and fear of a woman’s agency, a desire to control and oppress it.

📅 The symposium takes place on 23 May at ZUZEUM and also includes two workshops led by Lauren Barri Holstein (UK) and Simona Orinska (Latvia).
